We have a lot of experience using, repairing, and selling supplies for inkjet printers.  From our experience, some brands are cheaper to "feed" and repair than others.

In order from least expensive to most expensive to operate, here they are:

Canon
Epson
HP (Hewlett Packard)
Lexmark (and Compaq)

This chart gives a little more detail on why that is the case.

Why we like Canon inkjet printers the best

1. Inexpensive supplies (especially if you buy a model that has separate cartridges for each color).

2. Able to use brand new, compatible (generic) supplies (they use ink tanks, which have no circuitry on them).

3. Easily replaceable print head, which does not have to be replaced when changing cartridges.  (Replace only when worn out.)

4. High print quality.
