Statistics show that about nine out of ten professing US Christians believe and live in ways that totally contradict Christ’s teachings. And most churches aren’t helping the situation.

Some people are blind to their own inconsistencies. Many churches leave people free to continue fooling themselves, rather than forcing them to face the “mirror”.

Other hypocrites know they’re living a lie. Our churches attract them by assuring people (either implicitly or explicitly) that they can do whatever they want (lie, lust, steal, have sex outside of marriage, etc.) and still go to heaven as long as they accept Jesus as Savior, get baptized, ask forgiveness, say a certain prayer, take communion, tithe, or perform some other religious ritual.

Our churches’ intentions were good: welcome everyone. But our theology was bad: God doesn’t welcome everyone. God only welcomes one class of people: the humble and repentant. “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

God will take us as we are but He will not leave us as we are. God will not – in fact, He can not – rescue a man from hell without rescuing him from sin. Our churches have tried to separate the two. As a result, Jesus’ reputation suffers.

Will you do anything about it?
